History & Government Awards

Alumni Honors Scholarship Award
This award is available to an outstanding freshman, sophomore, junior, or non-graduating seniors from each academic department. Recipients of this award are nominated and selected by department faculty; no application is necessary.

The Edmund Burke Award
This award is presented to a junior or senior student within the History & Government Department who has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. Recipients of this award are nominated and selected by department faculty; no application is necessary.

The Jenna Lynn Ellis Award
Recipients will be a junior or senior students pursuing a career in law and planning to attend law school following graduation with a 3.3 or higher grade point average in any program of study. Recipients of this award are nominated and selected by department faculty; nominated students are required to complete an application process.

The Dr. Joseph G. Halsey Award
The recipient must be a full-time student in good standing with the University, pursuing an academic major in Political Science who anticipates entering law school after completing his or her program of study. The student must have at least one year remaining in his or her program of study at the time of selection. The student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate the potential to excel in the Political Science program. Recipients of this award are nominated and selected by department faculty; no application is necessary.

The Stephen M. Harriman Memorial Award
This award was established by Earle and Donnabelle Harriman to honor the memory of their beloved, late son who graduated in 1973 with a major in Social Science. Recipients must be history or history education majors, have at least one year remaining in their academic program, and demonstrate spiritual maturity and leadership qualities. This is a one-time award. The faculty of the Department of History and Government nominate and select the recipients. No application is necessary.
