
Geology of National Parks: June 8 - June 22, 2008
GSCI 1030 - 3.5 credits
This year Dr. John Whitmore will teach his 3rd annual Geology of the National Parks in Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. This is a two week science class that meets the general education laboratory science requirement. Trip requirements include class participation, keeping a field notebook and developing an annotated photo atlas of the geology you have learned. There are no tests!
The trip begins and ends in Salt Lake City, Utah. The cost of the trip is approximately $1550 plus tuition. Students cover the cost of their airfare to SLC and their own meals. Vehicle and hotel expenses are covered in the trip fee. Most of the hotels have a complimentary breakfast.
Parks scheduled to be visited include Fossil Butte (WY), Grand Teton (WY), 4 days in Yellowstone (WY, MT, ID) and 2 days in Glacier (MT). As a trip bonus, a whitewater raft trip is being planned on the Flathead River just outside of Glacier National Park.
