Discipleship Ministries

The department of discipleship ministries exists to foster spiritual growth and life change on campus through the means of small groups and mentoring relationships. While other departments within the Division of Christian Ministries focus primarily on "outreach," discipleship ministries focuses primarily on "in-reach" for the edification of the student body.

Discipleship Council: Affectionately known as the "DC," this select group of upperclassmen assists the discipleship director in administration of discipleship small groups. Throughout the year, the DC examines the topic of discipleship through Bible study, group interaction, and shared ministry experience. Click here to view group.

Discipleship Small Groups: These groups seek to create an atmosphere for spiritual growth through accountability, prayer, open discussion, and loving community. Led by upperclassmen, under the direction of the Discipleship Council, the groups meet once a week for the duration of one year. The meetings alternate between community building activities and discussion of a topic of study. Sign-ups occur near the beginning of fall semester. Evangelism Training Small Groups: New at the beginning of the 08-09 school year, these groups will alternate each week between on-campus training meetings and witnessing experiences at neighboring college campuses. For more information, contact discipleship council member, Mark Miller.

Prayer Groups: Several student-led prayer ministries function on campus under the direction of discipleship ministries. Prayer Force, for women, meets weekly in small groups around campus. A group called S.P.A.R.K. (Students Praying and Reaching Kin) also meets weekly to pray for unsaved family members. The Chapel Prayer Team, meets each weekday during chapel, on a rotating schedule, to uplift every service in prayer. Sign-ups occur near the beginning of fall semester. You may also contact the discipleship ministries office throughout the year for information on joining one of these groups.

Fit To Be Tied: Engaged and seriously dating couples may take advantage of this year-long pre-marital preparation program. Student couples are paired with a faculty or staff mentor couple to meet with throughout the year in order to discuss issues and questions raised in five general session meetings. Registration packets are available in the Christian Ministries office at the start of fall semester. Click here for more information.
