Diane (De Nicola) Orlofsky '78, is the 2016 Alabama Outstanding Music Educator.
Diane (De Nicola) Orlofsky, Ph.D., was named the 2016 Outstanding Educator Award from the Alabama Music Educators Association (AMEA). Orlofsky, a 1978 graduate of Cedarville University, serves as professor of music and director of choirs in the John M. Long School of Music at Troy University.
She is in her 30th year as a professor at Troy and currently serves on the Alabama Choral Directors Association board as the state repertoire and standards chair for Vocal Jazz. She is also active in the National Association for Music Education, the Jazz Education Network, the AMEA, Phi Kappa Phi and the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
Orlofsky is an active choral clinician and researcher and has had articles published in numerous national publications. She was named an American fellow by the AAUW in 1996-1997 for her groundbreaking research on Jerome Bruner, learning theory and teacher preparation (Redefining Teacher Education: The Theories of Jerome Bruner and the Practice of Training Teachers, 2002, Peter Lang Publishing).
She has received a number of awards for teaching, scholarship and service, including Troy University’s Wallace D. Malone, Jr. Distinguished Faculty Award (2014), and the Alabama Association of Teacher Educators Outstanding Teacher Educator Award (1991). Orlofsky has music education degrees from Cedarville, Wright State University and Florida State University.
