New M.Div. Program, Online M.Min. Announced
Students can now earn their Master of Divinity degree at Cedarville.
Cedarville University is expanding its academic programs with the launch of a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree and a change to its Master of Ministry (M.Min.) program.
The M.Div. program will feature an accelerated five-year track that includes a Bachelor of Arts in biblical studies. In addition, Cedarville will also offer a traditional, three-year standalone M.Div program consisting of 98 credit hours.
The M.Min., program will now be offered completely online. Both the online M.Min., and the M.Div. programs will be available for the 2016-17 academic year.
The accelerated M.Div. track will allow students to earn both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years. Typically, students take seven or more years to earn both degrees.
Through this structure, students minimize time and cost while expediting their engagement in full-time ministry and earning the same degree offered by other universities. The cost of the M.Div. from Cedarville is expected to be one of the lowest in the country.
By enrolling in the accelerated program, students can expect to spend just an extra $5,500 to earn both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Another unique advantage of the accelerated program is that it allows students to immerse themselves in the Cedarville experience that all undergrads receive through daily chapel, NCAA Division II athletics, and a vibrant campus life.
True to the heritage of Cedarville University, the M.Div. program will focus unapologetically on the Bible as students will spend more time studying the Old Testament, New Testament, biblical languages, and biblical theology in comparison to similar programs at other institutions.
In order to gain practical experience, the M.Div. program will connect students to local churches for one-year internships and guided ministry involvement that will provide hands-on implementation.
Altogether, this degree program will equip students with a robust, biblical theology aimed at serving within the kingdom opportunities God provides.
Cedarville’s online M.Min. program will allow anyone to be equipped to teach small groups in a local church, serve in a variety of ministerial positions or simply obtain more biblical knowledge. At 38 hours, all of which can be completed online, the degree can be completed in a reasonable time frame from anywhere in the world.
“These degrees will provide a fantastic base of knowledge for anyone wanting to serve God faithfully,” said Jason Lee, Ph.D., dean of the school of biblical and theological studies. “Our program will prepare students to work in large churches, small churches or wherever God may direct them.”
Coursework will place a large emphasis on biblical authority, the Great Commission and skills needed to effectively serve in a variety of ministries.
"We want to serve the local church well and emphasize the importance of being on mission with God. These graduate degrees combine academic excellence with a Gospel purpose,” said Cedarville president Dr. Thomas White. “As a Christian University, the Master of Divinity and Master of Ministry programs fit beautifully with our desire to stand for the Word of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ.”
