Dr. Marc Sweeney will take part in a forum covering opioids on Friday, Oct. 13.

Dr. Marc Sweeney, dean of the school of pharmacy at Cedarville University, will be part of a panel of physicians, clergy, addiction specialists and first responders to analyze the opioid epidemic in Dayton on Friday, Oct. 13.

The forum will be held in the Wright Dunbar Conference Center, 1130 West Third Street in Dayton, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it is free and open to the public. The panel will educate attendees about current Dayton-area initiatives and discuss how the community can safeguard its families and neighborhoods from addiction deaths.

Panelists will also discuss the use of naloxone, prevention strategy development and improved treatment programs.

“I look forward to continuing to participate in educating the public and collaborating with professionals to identify solutions to the opioid epidemic,” said Sweeney. “The problem is very complex and will require local communities to work together to bring solutions.”

Joining Sweeney on the panel are Tom Joyner, host of the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show” talk radio show, Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer and physicians from Dayton hospitals. Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley will welcome guests.

Sweeney sees this as an opportunity to represent Cedarville’s school of pharmacy by serving the community. He commented, “As a Christ-centered school of pharmacy, we desire to serve and love others in meaningful ways.”

ZIKS Family Pharmacy’s owner, Dr. Nnodum Iheme, assembled and sponsored this expert panel.
