Student Nurses Association hosts two-day blood drive for campus, community

Cedarville University’s Student Nurses Association (SNA) will hold its second blood drive of the academic year February 6-7 from 12-4 p.m. in the Steven Student Center event rooms. The blood drive will be open to students, faculty/staff and the community.

Participants are encouraged to register by visiting www.donortime.com and using the sponsor code 147 or by calling 1-800-388-4483. The blood drive will provide a healthy bank of blood for people battling cancer, trauma, sickle cell anemia, transfusions, blood disorders and other issues.
“This is a great way to get the campus involved and spread awareness of the benefits of donating blood and the importance of staying healthy,” said Taylor Burns, senior nursing student and president of the SNA.

The Community Blood Center in Dayton, Ohio, will run the drive and a volunteer group of freshmen and sophomore nursing students will care for those who donate. Volunteers will sit with the donors at a table for at least 15 minutes after they give blood and make sure they have something to eat and drink before leaving.

“The student volunteers are a huge help to the efficiency of the drive,” said Burns. “The phlebotomists can focus on drawing blood while the students focus on watching and caring for the patients after they’ve donated.”

Burns and SNA have high expectations for the blood drive, especially since they received two awards last year due to record-breaking participation.

“We hope the biggest motivator for people to give blood is that it saves lives,” said Burns.
