Yellow Jacket Athletes Host Fun Days at YMCA
Yellow Jacket student-athletes use their platform to build into elementary students
Cedarville University student-athletes are bringing Junior Jackets Fun Days to the Springfield YMCA on March 19 and 26.
Fun Days started in January and are free for third- and fourth-grade students in the Springfield area. For their child to participate, parents must fill out a registration form, and they can do this in advance or once they arrive at the YMCA.
For Fun Days, CU Fellowship (CUF), a cross-sport student-athlete organization, organizes activities such as Olympic-style events and relay races and also plays board games with the attendees. The main purpose of Fun Days is to spend quality time building relationships with children.
“The students want to give these children hope. They want to build relationships and help the children create dreams of what they can be someday,” said Stephanie Zonars, assistant athletic director for marketing and sponsorships.
To promote the event, the Thursday before a scheduled Fun Day, two Cedarville student-athletes have lunch at Fulton Elementary and Perrin Woods Elementary Schools and invite children to the YMCA on Sunday afternoon.
“The best part of Junior Jackets is hanging out with the kids and seeing them have a good time,” said student volunteer and softball player Danielle Wolgamot. “They love it and are excited to come back every week we do it.”
CUF values fellowship, discipleship, family and sacrifice, and Junior Jackets Fun Days embody all of these.
“Junior Jackets Fun Days embrace family and fellowship,” said CUF student leader and soccer player Bradley Schluter. “We athletes can sacrifice our time to share life with the children in the community around us.”
