International Students Introduced to Classic American Holiday
34th annual Campus Bible Fellowship Thanksgiving celebration will be held November 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairborn Senior Center.
Cedarville student organization Campus Bible Fellowship (CBF) will partner with a conversational English class at Wright State University to give international students a Thanksgiving to remember.
The 34th annual CBF Thanksgiving celebration will be held November 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairborn Senior Center, 325 N. Third St., Fairborn, Ohio.
“Since international students are curious about our culture and holidays, the dinner provides an opportunity to build relationships,” said Gary Holtz, international coordinator for CBF International. “Our purpose is to introduce the international students to the Thanksgiving holiday and to share with them why we are thankful.”
Individuals from local churches, along with Cedarville students, will serve at the event.
“It’s a fun event for the international students. A lot of them don’t have the American contacts that will invite them into their homes for Thanksgiving,” said Kelsy Boyes, a Cedarville senior chemistry major from Charlotte, North Carolina. “This is a great way for them to get to experience Thanksgiving.”
The event will also feature music from a Wright State University Chinese graduate, and Brian Hanson of Gatekeepers Ministry will give a brief talk on Thanksgiving.
“The dinner has given me an opportunity for exposure to those from other lands and opened the door for us to develop our present ministry through conversational English classes at Wright State University,” Holtz said.
