Professor will serve as one of four representatives from Greene County during his four-year term.

Dr. Michael Sherr, professor of social work and chair of the Cedarville University Department of Social Work, was recently appointed to the Mental Health and Recovery Board (MHRB) of Clark, Greene and Madison Counties.

Sherr was appointed to the MHRB by the Greene County Board of Commissioners, and he is one of four representatives from Greene County. He will serve a four-year term.

The MHRB is responsible for planning, funding and services for people with serious and persistent mental illness and alcohol and other drug addictions throughout the three-county area.

“It is an honor to represent the university and Greene County as a resident to make good, wise decisions regarding the allocation of funds and the provision of care for residents in these three counties,” Sherr said.

He believes the MHRB experience will also translate into practical classroom applications. “Serving the community in this kind of capacity makes the classroom matter come alive; it’s not just theory and textbook,” he said.

Sherr joined the faculty at Cedarville University in 2018. He has been a full-time educator since 2004 and has held administrative positions for more than seven years at both faith-based and secular universities. He has been published in 80 professional journals and has written three books. He practiced for a decade in behavioral health, hospital and hospice settings.
