Cedarville Stories Podcast: Preserved by His Promise

For Susan Plemons, Assistant Professor of Worship, Psalm 119:50 has taken on a very personal meaning: “My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.”
She grew up in the South, but came north with her husband, Ron, when he was named pastor at First Baptist Church in Fairborn, Ohio. Her teaching career had encompassed public and private K-12 education, but after her last position ended, the Lord opened a door at Cedarville.
Her career at Cedarville began in 2013, but just four years later, in 2017, she learned a bigger reason for God providentially moving her here: Ron died unexpectedly at age 54 from a heart condition. After his death, she began to think about whether returning south was God’s call on her life. As she struggled about her future, she heard the Lord’s still, small voice, “I just didn’t bring you to Cedarville for then, but for now, and for your future.”
In His goodness, Jesus also answered the desire of her heart to have family nearby when her nephew and his family were called to serve at the church where her husband had pastored. And in another fulfillment of Psalm 119:50, the Lord used her family to preserve her life by helping her get medical attention when she nearly died in 2019 from renal failure, sepsis, double pneumonia, and a racing pulse on track for a heart attack. The Lord keeps preserving her life.
