Starting this summer, Cedarville University will offer the Defending Life Summer Institute, a program designed to equip pro-life advocates through a series of intensive one-week courses.
The institute will provide a four-course sequence resulting in a Continuing Education Certificate. Registration is now available here through May 5.
“Cedarville University is unequivocally committed to the sanctity of life because of our belief that human beings are made in the image of God, and we are pleased to be preparing the next generation of servants willing to work on behalf of life,” said Dr. Thomas Mach, vice president for academics and chief academic officer.
The first course will be held on June 14-18, with Marc Newman teaching Public Advocacy in Bioethics. Newman is the president of Speaker For Life, a training firm equipping pro-life advocates nationwide with public speaking skills.
Newman will teach students to master the art of public debate in real-time by offering numerous occasions to research, prepare and deliver speeches on topics within the current bioethics debate.
The following week, June 21-25, the course Rhetoric and Ethics of Abortion will be taught by Scott Klusendorf, founder and president of Life Training Institute, which trains Christians and pro-life advocates to persuasively defend their views.
Klusendorf will teach the basic pro-life case and examine the underlying worldview assumptions that both academic and laypeople bring to debates over abortion, embryonic stem cell research, and cloning. He will also discuss why the Christian worldview, in particular, does a better job accounting for the intrinsic value of human beings, fundamental human rights, and objective moral rules.
On-campus housing in Cedarville’s townhouses will be available for an additional charge.
