Simulation Center Upgrade Will Facilitate Collaboration
The Health Sciences High Fidelity Simulation Center is getting an upgrade this summer to enable greater health care program collaboration within the university.
The Cedarville University School of Nursing High Fidelity Simulation Center enables students to experience
clinical situations in a state-of-the-art simulated clinical setting.
“Our vision and goal is to bring along and collaborate with allied health , the
new physician assistant program, and the school of pharmacy to encourage these
schools to use simulation in their programs,” said Karen Callan, coordinator of nursing labs and simulation facilities.
As part of the upgrade, the Simulation Center recording system used while running high-fidelity simulations within the Sim Center was updated with new cameras and monitors beginning in May. The system records a simulation that can then be used at the
end of a scenario during the debriefing. The debriefing of any simulation is the most important aspect of a well-run clinical simulation. Students are encouraged to use their clinical knowledge, reasoning, and judgment which is the goal of a simulation.
After this upgrade, all simulation center activity, users, curriculum, simulator data and reporting will be handled by a single cloud-based software platform, allowing health care educators to work more efficiently, effectively, and collaboratively within
Cedarville University’s health care programs.
Callan graduated from Cedarville College
in its first Bachelor of Science in Nursing class in 1985. For the past 28 years, she has served as a lab coordinator, a lab instructor, a clinical adjunct, and for the past 9 years as the coordinator of labs and facilities.
