Cedarville Stories: Singing for a President? Not Her Biggest Challenge
Beth Porter, Chair of the Department of Music and Worship, has the voice of an angel, the whistle of a cardinal, and a powerful story of forgiveness that sings God’s praise.

"Mama Porter," as she's fondly known, came to Cedarville in 1997. Her generous spirit, unconditional kindness, and commitment to speak the truth in love to her students have impacted decades of voice and music students.
Her vocal talent is a memorable feature at the annual Community Christmas Celebration, and one of her chapel performances landed her an invite as the featured soloist for the 2004 National Day of Prayer at the White House where she sang for fellow Texan, President George W. Bush.
Beyond the opportunities and accolades, Beth has persevered through great trials as she experienced divorce. She learned deeply about God’s faithfulness and the power of forgiveness, and she has shared those lessons with hundreds of students.
In everything, it is the Lord who is conducting this amazing concert of her life.
“I tell the Lord often and have told Him for a long time, ‘Lord, please use me, but don’t let me know it,’" she shares during the podcast. “As an artist, it’s very easy to become all-consumed with self. I don’t want to be able to take any credit for anything that is obviously the work of God.”
