The Cedarville University School of Pharmacy and Department of Social Work will hold a joint panel discussion on effective cross-discipline collaboration for hospital patient care on Tuesday, Feb. 22.  The event will be held in the Stevens Student Center event rooms from 5-6:30 p.m.

The panel will focus on the different roles medical professionals play in the hospital setting. The panelists will present a patient case and then provide input from their area of expertise in how they would best help the patient.

Panelists include outpatient clinical pharmacist Thad Franz, Pharm.D.; inpatient clinical pharmacist Logan Conkey, Pharm.D., BCPS; nurse practitioner Angelia Mickle, D.N.P., RN, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC; physician assistant Jason Grahame, M.P.A., PA-C; and social worker Melissa Brown, M.S.W.

David Peters, Pharm.D., a clinical professor in the school of pharmacy and the healthcare organization advisor, emphasized the importance of leaning on the expertise of others. While each health care professional plays an important role, they need to rely on each other to provide patients with the best treatment.

“We in health care are always reliant on a team of individuals who have different strengths, and we want to value other team members and learn from their expertise to come up with the best patient outcome,” said Peters.

This panel discussion is geared toward students seeking a career in the health care field, providing them with multiple perspectives from various professionals and how they work together to provide the best possible care to a patient.
