The official groundbreaking ceremony of the Lorne C. Scharnberg Business Centerwill be held on Friday, Sept.  30, at 11 a.m. at Cedarville University.

The Scharnberg Business Center, which will open in the fall of 2024, is the fifth building to be constructed as a part of Cedarville’s One Thousand Days Transformedcampaign, which launched during homecoming weekend in 2021. It follows the construction of Chick-fil-A; a new female residence hall, Wood Hall, an athletic and academic expansion to the Callan Athletic Center; and the Civil Engineering Center.

“This has been a time of exponential growth for the university,” said Dr. Will Smallwood, vice president of advancement.  “This campaign is evidence of God’s blessings on our campus, and it also speaks to the quality of education at Cedarville that is rooted in biblical authority.” Attending the groundbreaking will be Cedarville trustee emeritus and the new center’s namesake, Lorne Scharnberg, whose family donated $10 million toward the business center.

“Placing the ceremony during homecoming allows our alumni and donors to witness firsthand the impact of their financial commitment to Cedarville University,” said Smallwood. “Every alumni, every donor, from $10 to $10 million matters.”

The Scharnberg Business Center will be located on Cedar Lake between the Stevens Student Center and the Dixon Ministry Center, a central location that will serve as a community and academic hub for students. The 65,000-square-foot building will house the school of business, department of communication and center for the advancement of cybersecurity, as well as the new Berry Center for Free Enterprise.

“The Scharnberg center will serve as a flagship building on campus,” said Dr. Jeff Haymond, dean of the school of business. “It will offer students collaborative spaces, new dining options and larger classrooms. This building will be integral as our university continues to expand.”
