Seven Champions: Cedarville Shines at National Speech Competition
The Cedarville University forensics team competed during the National Christian College Forensics Invitational at Liberty University on March 19.
Alex Boesch, Olivia Ball, Will Galkin, Avé Burson, Micaiah O'Malley, Maren Moses, and Paul Miller won individual titles including Duo Interpretation, Interpretation of Faith Literature, Novice Impromptu, and Reader’s Theatre.
Boesch of Champaign, Illinois, was the overall tournament national champion in speech.
Cedarville placed second overall in the team speech competition.
Other individual championships included:
- Boesch and Ball from Columbus, Ohio, duo interpretation
- Miller from Chariton, Iowa, interpretation of faith literature
- Burson from Cedarville, Ohio, novice impromptu
- Galkin from Salt Lake City Utah, Boesch, Ball, Burson, O'Malley from Martinsville, Indiana, and Moses from Columbus, Ohio, readers theatre
“For this tournament, we all piled into a 12-passenger van, drove to Virginia, stayed in an Airbnb, and spent several days competing with dozens of students from different universities," said O'Malley. “Whatever the format is for a tournament, it’s always super fun to just be together.”
“I believe that at the end of the day the success God gave brought us even closer together,” said Miller. “It was one of those things that can’t help but unite a team together even closer than ever before. It gives me joy seeing how much the team loves each other and uplifts each other.”
