Socialism’s persisting influence on American culture has been a long-term concern amongst political conservatives. In light of this, Cedarville University will host a panel discussion on the topic with renowned author Dr. Wayne Grudem.
The panel will be held on Tuesday, Sep. 20, from 6:30-9 p.m. in Cedarville’s Center for Biblical and Theological Studies Room 104. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
Grudem, professor of theology and biblical studies at Phoenix Seminary, is no stranger to Cedarville. He has spoken in chapel and at economics conferences several times prior to his role in this event.
Grudem will be joined by Dr. Marc Clauson, professor of history and law, and Dr. Jeff Haymond, professor of economics and dean of the school of business.
“Socialism continues to influence American culture, and Christians need to discern the extent that it impacts culture and to be able to give the reasons they don’t accept it,” Clauson explained, remarking on its subtlety. “You often face pushback from people on the left who say socialism no longer exists, which is cultural Marxism at work.
To Clauson, the issue is significant for every discipline because everybody interacts with culture. “We want to equip people to be able to articulate their position and engage others on an ideological level, and to be able to winsomely proclaim the gospel through our differences from culture,” he said.
Clauson fundamentally hopes that the panel will combat evangelicalism’s ignorance of socialism’s continuing influence.
