Cedarville University will host its annual “Meet the Firms” career fair event in the Stevens Student Center event rooms on Monday, Sept. 11, from 6-7:30 p.m.
20 finance and accounting firms from all over the country are expected to participate in the fair. The program allows college students who are interested in a career in finance or accounting to meet potential employers. The event is open to the public.
In previous years, over 20 employers have been present at the fair and over 80 students have attended, many of which have secured interviews, internships and full-time positions from connections made at the event.
“Students can expect to connect with employers, have good conversations and hopefully work on their networking and professional skills,” said Cam Arminio, Assistant Director of Career Services. “It’s ultimately a way to learn more about employers, gain experience working with recruiters and hopefully find a job or internship.”
To prepare for the event, career services suggests that students do their research on the firms that will be attending and prepare specific questions for each of the firms that they are interested in.
“Even though Meet the Firms isn't necessarily an interview, it can very easily lead to an interview,” said Arminio. “Some students will go to the fair, have no expectations of having an interview right after and the employer really likes that student and asks them to stick around for 30 minutes after the fair to interview on the spot. This has happened several times and people get internships out of it.”
To prepare for the event, students are encouraged to come with general and specific questions pertinent to finance and accounting careers. Having a well-written resume, a solid LinkedIn profile, a business card and dressing professionally will set students apart from other candidates.
Career services provides services for each step of the preparation process and is committed to equipping each student to confidently approach this event.
“Get your name out there. There’s nothing to lose, except for a few minutes of your night,” added Arminio.
