Students will have the opportunity to earn up to $1,000 when Cedarville University’s Robert W. Plaster School of Business hosts its annual “Pitch” event on Friday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. in the Jeremiah Chapel.
Sponsored by the Cedarville University Entrepreneurs (CUE) student organization, “The Pitch" encourages college students interested in building a startup business to pitch their idea or product to a panel of judges from the business sector. The grand prize will be $1,000.
This year, the Pitch will start with a pre-show that will include a red carpet and a photo booth, thanks to the innovation of the CUE student organization and their commitment to making this event the best that it can be.
"In the world of entrepreneurship, you can’t just learn from a book. You have to do it, and that’s actually what the Pitch is all about,” said Dr. Kary Oberbrunner, Berry Chair of Entrepreneurship at Cedarville. “Entrepreneurship is a mindset, not a minor, and because every student is a brand they should think like a business owner. Excellence in the marketplace with Jesus’ teaching—that our good work is not for our own glory, but rather to point others to God.”
Oberbrunner joined the Cedarville faculty this year and is the owner of two businesses, Igniting Souls and Blockchain Life. He is also the Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of over a dozen books, including The E Mind: Think Like an Entrepreneur and Gain an Exponential Advantage and Unhackable: The 30-Day Elixir for Creating Flawless Ideas, Leveraging Superhuman Focus, and Achieving Optimal Performance Through Flow. He brings a heightened level of passion to The Pitch as the Berry Chair of Entrepreneurship and through his leadership with CUE.
Students from every year and academic discipline may participate in The Pitch. The program provides an opportunity to learn from other entrepreneurs, and nonparticipating attendees will have the opportunity to win an iPad or Air Pods, which will be given away during the event.
“You pitch yourself every time you apply for a job. There are so many times in life that you’re asking people to take a risk on you,” said Oberbrunner.
