Embracing the Call: The Advance of the Gospel in Acts 1:1–14

Have you ever faced failure in something you are deeply passionate about? It's a common feeling, especially when it comes to sharing the Gospel. Acts 1:1–14 provides us with a powerful reminder: God uses ordinary people to spread His message, and He empowers us to do so.

Acts, the second part of Luke's Gospel, describes how Jesus continues His mission through His disciples. This book begins with the ascension of Jesus, setting the stage for a global movement. Christ’s command, found in verses 1–5, is clear: the message of His resurrection is central. Jesus didn't remain dead; He is the author of life. His resurrection validates His identity, verifies His power, and vindicates His mission (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

In verses 6-9, Jesus commissions His followers to be His witnesses, emphasizing that their task is to share the Gospel with the entire world. This is not just an ancient call but a timeless command for us today. To be a Christian is to be a witness, and though the Gospel often encounters opposition, we are called to bear it with joy and perseverance.

Finally, in verses 10–14, Jesus' ascension is linked to the coming of the Holy Spirit, who empowers us for this mission. Our hope is anchored in the fact that Jesus will return. As we await His coming, we must remain diligent in our witness, recognizing our dependence on God to bring about the harvest. The early disciples responded to their call with fervent prayer, seeking God's guidance and strength.

Let us embrace our role as witnesses with the same joy, supporting each other in prayer and action. As we advance the Gospel, may we always remember the privilege and joy of sharing the good news of our risen Savior.
