The Priorities of The Gospel — 9/24/2024 10:00 AM

Today's speaker is Mike Mazzye, Pastor and Church Planter at Renovation Church in North Syracuse, NY. Speaking from Titus 1:5-9, Pastor Mazzye seeks to reinforce some priorities in those that know and trust Jesus Christ as Savior.

Notes

Embracing the Priorities of the Gospel

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to lose sight of what truly matters. As believers, we are called to reinforce our priorities through the lens of the Gospel. This message was beautifully captured in a recent sermon based on Titus 1:5–9, which lays out three essential Gospel priorities that address our deepest needs. The foundation of our lives as Christians rests on our relationship with Jesus. Understanding that He is our Saviour is not just a theological point; it's a life-altering truth. Romans 10:13 reminds us, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” This assurance is vital, especially as we navigate the challenges of life.

Evangelism

The first priority we discussed is evangelism. If you are a follower of Christ, your life is meant to be evangelistic. This is not merely an option; it’s a calling for each of us. As Matthew 28:19 commands, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”

Key Points:

  1. Awareness of Lostness: Are we aware of the lostness in our communities? Do we feel burdened for those who don’t know Christ?
  2. Personal Prayer: Is there someone in your life you can pray for? Identify that person and commit to lifting them up in prayer.
  3. Make it a goal this week to share your faith with at least one person. Pray for the courage to speak and the wisdom to know when and how to share.

Church Planting

The second priority is church planting. In an age where skepticism towards institutions is prevalent, we must remember that God designed the church as a place of order and structure for our growth. Hebrews 3:13 encourages us to “encourage one another daily.”

Key Points:

  1. Preventing Isolation: Many new believers feel lost or isolated. It is our duty to create a welcoming environment where they can thrive.
  2. Saturation of Gospel Preaching: We must actively plant churches to reach more people with the Gospel. The need for local congregations is greater than ever.
  3. Consider supporting or getting involved in a local church planting initiative. Your participation can make a lasting impact in your community.

Intentional Discipleship

The final priority is intentional discipleship. Discipling is not just for the spiritually mature; it’s for everyone. In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul encourages us to pass on what we have learned to others.

Key Points:

  1. Character Development: It’s crucial to focus on character over competency. As Mike Mazzye wisely stated, “Grace is greater than gifting.” We need leaders who exemplify Christlike character.
  2. Empowering Women: The role of women in discipleship is invaluable. Women in our communities teach, mentor, and share their faith in powerful ways.
  3. Find a mentor or someone more mature in faith and invest time in building that relationship. Alternatively, consider mentoring someone who is new to their faith.

In summary, we are called to live out the priorities of the Gospel: evangelism, church planting, and intentional discipleship. Remember, sinners need salvation, Christians need local churches, and churches need Christlike leaders. Let’s commit to living these priorities out today, not tomorrow. The world is waiting, and we have the message of hope that they need.
