The Cedarville University Orchestra will play several familiar works, as well as showcase an original piece by Austin Jaquith, D.M.A., associate professor of music theory and composition, during its fall concert on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m.
The hour long performance will take place in the Dixon Ministry Center Recital Hall, and the event is free and open to the public.
The 42-member orchestra will be conducted by Carlos Elias, M.M., professor of music and director of the university orchestra.
“The Music Department and orchestra would love for the student body to come out and support their fellow classmates who have been working hard all semester,” said Elias.
In addition to Jaquith’s composition, “Prelude,” the orchestra will play selected works from several classical artists including “Overture to the Abduction from the Seraglio” by Mozart and “Symphony No. 104 in D Major” by Haydn.
Jaquith was recently named as the Composer of the Year by the Ohio Music Teachers Association for his original saxophone piece “In the Hurricane’s Eye.”
“Although Dr. Jaquith will not be conducting his piece, he will be present to listen,” said Elias. “This is a special opportunity to perform his composition. While this piece has been performed in other states, it has never been performed in Ohio, so this will be the state premiere.”
Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,711 undergraduate, graduate and online students in more than 100 areas of study.
