Cedarville University’s visual communication design program can claim another high-profile placement, as 2016 graduate Andrew Spencer accepted a frontend design position last month at Sparkbox, a leading web design studio based in Dayton.
During the last week of Spencer’s final semester at Cedarville, his web design class visited Sparkbox – a company that had been on Spencer’s radar for years. After learning that they had an opening that fit his skills, he applied and was accepted into Sparkbox’s apprenticeship program.
A full-service web design studio, Sparkbox works with organizations to develop and design websites and applications. The company – an industry leader – also offers professional design and development workshops around the Dayton area.
As an apprentice, Spencer spent three months honing his HTML and CSS coding skills. And when the apprenticeship ended, Sparkbox offered him a full-time position as a frontend designer, and Spencer now builds and designs websites for what he calls a fun and hardworking company.
“I enjoy the diversity of the work that I do, and no two days are ever the same,” Spencer said. “I’m able to work on multiple projects at once, and I help the team create the best work possible for our clients. The people are the biggest factor in making it an enjoyable and exciting job.”
Spencer credits Cedarville’s visual communication design professors with preparing him well for his work at Sparkbox.
“I truly appreciate my professors’ intentionality and the effort they put into helping me become a well-rounded design professional who seeks to honor Christ with my work. They pushed me to do my best.”
