College students are some of the most passionate people in the world when it comes to supporting a cause, but committing their time can often be difficult as they seek to balance academics, extracurricular activities and social life.
As the 43rd anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on Roe vs. Wade approaches next week, a student organization at Cedarville University is hoping to get more students active in the pro-life movement.
CU Students for Life will host a variety of events next week, including a memorial service in memory of the lives affected by abortion.
“We want to inspire students to get involved in the cause and to move beyond just talking about the issues,” said Amiah Warder, a senior environmental sciences major from Sheridan, Wyoming, who serves as the group’s treasurer.
Throughout the week, CU Students for Life will be active on campus, with a different activity planned for each day. On Monday, the group will hand out fact sheets on abortion along with information on how to contact government officials to encourage them to support pro-life legislation.
“We hear about abortion all the time, and it’s easy to become desensitized to it,” she said. “It’s our hope that, through our activities next week, students are encouraged to become active and engage the community on important issues.”
Tuesday evening will feature a special memorial service at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Dixon Ministry Center. The service will consist of special music, a time of prayer, comments from Ohio Representative Niraj Antani (R – 42nd District) and testimonials from people who have been affected by abortion. The memorial service is open to the public.
Other events throughout the week include a painting wall on Wednesday and a Throwback Thursday event in which students are encouraged to post their baby pictures on social media with the hashtag #CULifeWeek.
On Friday, Students for Life will be selling T-shirts in the lower level of the Stevens Student Center. The shirts feature the organization’s logo along with the Dr. Seuss quote “A person is a person, no matter how small.”
