Retired Cedarville Librarian Earns Lifetime Service Award

by Natalia Kirychuk, Public Relations Writer

The Association of Christian Librarians (ACL) honored now-retired Cedarville University librarian Lynne Funtik with the Lifetime Service Award. This award is given to retiring members of the association who have more than 10 years active service in the association, furthering the field of librarianship or the association itself.

Funtik has been an active member of ACL for 28 years, volunteering at national conferences, participating on committees and assisting in projects that help members nationally and internationally. Most recently, Funtik helped launch “Reference Point,” a monthly member-written digital devotional.

“Lynne has served faithfully and with humility,” said Janelle Mazelin, executive director of ACL.  “She is highly deserving of this award.”

Funtik served at the Centennial Library starting in 1994, and retired at the end of June after 23 years serving as an information services librarian and assisting students and faculty in research support and information literacy development. Funtik has been a proponent of library services for all students, especially those with disabilities or international students adjusting to life at an American college.

“This was an unexpected special recognition,” said Funtik. “I am very grateful.”

Lynn Brock, dean of library services at Cedarville University, believes Funtik is worthy of the recognition.

“She has always been eager to help others succeed,” said Brock. “She has a servant’s heart, a gift for hospitality and a love for college students. She will be missed.”

“Cedarville has always had a stellar reputation, especially in library circles,” said Funtik. “I have appreciated the strong integration of faith and learning and opportunity to encourage the next generation.”
