Since the Renaissance, there has been a shift in where people look for knowledge and wisdom. The Reclaim Wisdom Conference will identify competing worldviews and help attendants base their beliefs on a six-day creation worldview.
“We want to develop Christian citizens who can knowledgeably and effectively engage with society,” explained Dr. Steve Gollmer, assistant chair of the department of science and mathematics and professor of physics. “This will include knowing what we believe, how it affects our lives and how we can have an impact on others.”
The conference will host nine speakers who will discuss the theology of worldviews and the scientific implications of those worldviews, including Cedarville professors Dr. John Gilhooly, assistant professor of philosophy and theology, and Dr. Heather Kuruvilla, senior professor of biology.
Gilhooly will address the presuppositions, control beliefs and the nature of truth and reality. Kuruvilla will speak on the relationship between creation and gene editing.
“Gene editing is an area of research and medicine that is currently undergoing exponential growth,” explained Kuruvilla. “A solid understanding of how God made creation and how mutations have affected creation since the fall impacts the way we as caretakers of creation wisely steward this powerful technology.”
Other topics discussed will be the evil and malevolence in a created world by Dr. Kurt Wise, professor of biology at Truett McConnell University in Cleveland, Georgia; the current state of the creation model by Paul Garner, researcher and lecturer at the Biblical Creation Trust; and the nature of man and the source of a person’s identity by Dr. Peter Gentry, professor of Old Testament interpretation at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
