Cedarville University has announced a new scholarship in honor of a longtime member of the Cedarville Board of Trustees Dr. Deforia Lane.
Lane served as the director of music therapy at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Seidman Cancer Center and Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. She earned her Ph.D. in music education from Case Western Reserve University. She has served on the Cedarville board of trustees since 1997.
The Dr. Deforia Lane Diversity Scholarship will be awarded in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to eligible new students beginning fall 2021.
Application and eligibility information will be available on the Cedarville University financial aid website. The new scholarship was recommended by Cedarville’s Kingdom Diversity Team.
Lane has made a transformative impact on the field of music therapy. She has designed and implemented music therapy programs for intellectually disabled individuals, abused children, geriatric clients, behaviorally and psychiatrically disturbed patients, adult and pediatric cancer patients and the terminally ill. As a consultant, she has served the Ohio Department of Mental Health, the Mayo Clinic, Ohio Hospice Organization, the National Department on Aging and Sesame Street (Children's Television Workshop).

She is one of the most encouraging people I have ever met, and I’m confident this scholarship will bring hope and joy to many students for years to come.”
