Coach Don Callan led the Cedarville men’s basketball team to 578 victories over 35 years, retiring in 1995. At the time, he was the third winningest coach in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012 and is a charter member of the Cedarville University Athletic Hall of Fame.
Although Coach Don Callan retired, he didn’t slow down. The same man who founded Cedarville’s Mission Involvement Services, which is today Global Outreach, continues to share the Gospel with professional athletes, senior citizens, and anyone who may cross his path. The Lord is still using him to win souls.
But in 2020, Coach suffered a terrible loss: the passing of his dear wife of 64 years, Nedra. Coach also was beaten for a time by COVID; he admits in the podcast he was ready to join his bride in eternity. But the Lord is always victorious in the life of His saints, and He had new victories in store for Coach.
“God started working in my heart and life that I needed to know Him better,” he shares with host Mark Weinstein. “But how do you do that? I started reading His Word and applying it. Special people sent me books. And all of the sudden, I found out God is interested in me for me. He wants me to be His servant, and He has something for me to do.”
