Cedarville University’s Dr. Nick Carrington, associate professor of professional writing, is helping launch Innovo Publishing’s Christian Publishing Portal. The portal, which launched early this month, offers online courses, manuscript critiques and advice on how to write and publish books — everything writers need to know in order to get their projects off the ground and published independently.
Carrington is involved with manuscript critiques and creating online courses about the craft of writing. He graduated from Cedarville in 2010 with a degree in professional writing and went on to get his master’s and doctoral degrees. He has worked in many branches of the writing field, including technical editing, freelance writing and book editing. He has been teaching at Cedarville since 2012.
He was introduced to Innovo Publishing through his wife, Rachael, who is the senior editor and project manager for the company. She graduated from Cedarville in 2010 with a media communications degree and an editing and publishing minor.
Innovo Publishing, a Christian publishing company based in Collierville, Tennessee, was founded in 2008 by Dr. Bart Dahmer. They publish books, music, films, screenplays and online courses.
“Our objective is to provide access to the publishing world for Christ,” said Dahmer. They partner with Christian writers from around the world.
Dahmer began compiling a list of best practices and insider tips he frequently coached writers through, and the Christian Publishing Portal was born.
In addition to courses and advice on the writing process, this educational arm of Innovo Publishing will provide Christian authors access to trusted Christian professionals, including editors, illustrators, cover designers and formatters. Carrington is one of those trusted Christian professionals.
The goal of the portal is not only to help writers succeed in their profession, but also to show them how to serve the Lord in their profession. Some of the courses offered to writers will center on walking humbly with the Lord in a publishing context and keeping their focus on his glory and not their own.
“I’m excited about helping people become better writers but doing so in a way that challenges them to be faithful with that skill,” Carrington said.
