A village that recently lost its only pharmacy will now regain this valuable local service through a creative partnership with Cedarville University.
Cedarville University will host a news conference outside the former Cedarville Hardware on June 19 at 11 a.m. to announce the newest pharmacy in Greene County, Cedar Care Village Pharmacy. The event will bring community awareness to the pharmacy, which is just one of two teaching pharmacies in Ohio.
Cedarville University purchased the Cedarville Hardware building in May with the intent of turning it into a pharmacy that will double as a learning environment for school of pharmacy students. The new pharmacy is expected to open fall 2018.
On May 10, 2018, Cedar Care, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cedarville University that operates under an independent board of directors, announced that it would purchase the Cedarville Hardware building downtown at the intersection of S.R. 72 and S.R. 42.
This will be an opportunity for Cedarville University’s Doctor of Pharmacy students to put their studies into practice and serve the community.
“What we hope to do is bring an opportunity to serve the local community by not only providing prescription medications, but also medical equipment and devices, pharmacy wellness programs, enhanced medication counseling and a disease management program,” said Dr. Marc Sweeney, president of the board of directors for Cedar Care, LLC, and dean of the Cedarville University School of Pharmacy. “We also want to provide our pharmacy students with the opportunity to maximize their skills to improve patient care.”
In addition to serving the health care needs of the community and contributing to revitalization efforts in the downtown area, the new pharmacy will benefit the village tax base. Future expansion of the pharmacy could ultimately include a limited-hours convenient care clinic and expanded pharmacy services at the location. Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,963 undergraduate, graduate, and online students in more than 150 areas of study.
