Students Springing Into Missions

Students across campus are scattering to the four winds for spring break. Some are heading home, others taking a fun vacation trip, and a few have maybe the most unique plan of all - they're springing into missions.

As spring break draws closer, students across campus are making decisions on what their plans will be – vacations, time at home, binging on a favorite show. But some students at Cedarville University have chosen overseas or domestic mission trips.

Cedarville University is sending 11 teams of students, faculty and staff overseas on mission trips during spring break March 6-12.

This year, five teams will serve in the U.S., including New York City, Salt Lake City, Boston, Washington D.C. and Atlanta. The other six teams will serve in international locations: four in Guatemala, one in London and one in Malawi in East Africa.

Cedarville’s Global Outreach department is partnering with organizations such as the North American Mission Board and DeepStream Ministries to send teams locally and around the globe.

These trips will focus on sharing the Gospel through medical outreach, education, and church planting.

Brian Nester, director of Global Outreach, emphasized the importance of mission trips as part of the total growth experience for students at Cedarville.  “Not everyone that goes on a mission trip is going to be a full-time missionary or full-time minister of the Gospel somewhere,” he said. “We believe that they are going to be more effective prayer warriors and church members and have a heart for missions to a greater extent after they serve on a short-term trip,” Nester said.

Nester’s advice for any student serving on the mission field, whether for a week or for a lifetime, is to always be a student. “Every culture has its strengths, and we can learn from other cultures,” he said. “Always be learning.”
