A Patient is a Person No Matter How Small — 11/22/2024 10:00 AM
Today's speaker is Dr. William Lile, who is a board-certified obstetrician, gynecologist, and founder of ProLifeDoc.org. Dr. Lile declares the value of every human life, and describes incredible surgeries that can be performed in utero to save unborn babies.
Notes
Today in chapel, Dr. William Lile delivered a powerful message on the sanctity of life, particularly focusing on the value of babies in the womb. He began by inviting the students to imagine themselves in medical school. Dr. Lile emphasized that medical advances now allow us to treat unborn babies as patients. He referenced techniques such as peri-umbilical blood sampling (P.U.B.S.), which allows doctors to administer blood transfusions to babies while they are still in the womb. He shared the inspiring story of a baby named Samuel, who received surgery for spina bifida while still in the womb. Now in college, Samuel is living a healthy life, demonstrating the potential for healing and thriving even before birth.
In his message, Dr. Lile tied these medical facts to scriptural truths, beginning with Genesis 1:26, where God declares, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” He explained that life begins at conception, and each unborn child is created in the image of God, deserving of life, dignity, and protection. He also referenced Psalm 139:13–14, where the psalmist praises God for forming him in the womb, underscoring that God has a purpose for every life, even before birth.
Dr. Lile continued with Proverbs 6:16–19, which lists things the Lord hates, including “hands that shed innocent blood.” He emphasized that abortion is a direct violation of this command, as it involves the destruction of innocent life. He also referenced Romans 5:8, explaining that Jesus died for sinners, including the preborn, offering the hope of forgiveness to all who repent. Even those who have been complicit in abortion can experience the grace of God, as Christ’s sacrifice covers all sin.
Dr. Lile concluded by stressing the importance of prayer and the Gospel in the fight against abortion. “The number one tool to win the battle of abortion is prayer and the Gospel,” he said, urging the students to take an active role in advocating for life. He reminded them that they have an obligation to serve the Kingdom of God, standing up for those who cannot speak for themselves and protecting the vulnerable, including those in the womb. Through both medical care and the Gospel, Christians are called to affirm the value of every life.
