SGA Chapel - 9/27/2024 — 9/27/2024 10:00 AM

Today's chapel is led by Cedarville University's Student Government Association. SGA Chaplain Trey Storr teaches that God Almighty's power and His promise should lead to obedience. His text is Genesis 17.

Notes

Today’s chapel was led by SGA Chaplain Trey Storr. He went through Genesis 17, focusing on the main point that God Almighty’s power and promise should lead to obedience. Along with this message we learned that El Shaddai is the name of God that means God Almighty. Storr’s outline shows how the passage supports this meaning.

Outline:

  1. The covenant call to obedience
  2. Covenant implications for Abraham
  3. Covenant implications for Sarah
  4. The covenant call to obedience

Through the passage, the Lord made a covenant call with Abraham. He wanted him, a 100-year-old man, to get circumcised. Abraham obeys and circumcises himself and all the men in his family. The reason for getting circumcised was to remember what the Lord has done for him.

How often do you forget what the Lord has done for you? Sometimes it can be easy to get caught up in the moment and forget to reflect on what the Lord has done. Storr gave some practical tips on how to remember what the Lord has done, such as:

  1. Keep a prayer journal. Write down your prayers to the Lord in a journal. Look back on these prayers and notice what the Lord has done in your life.
  2. Share your testimony with others. Tell others about how the Lord transformed your life.

Storr also mentioned how the Lord worked in Sarah’s life. God’s goodness to Abraham also had an impact on Sarah. As the Lord blessed Abraham, He also blessed Sarah. She was the woman of promise. A great nation would be born from her. The final question from this was: How could a 90-year-old woman bear a child? The answer is because God is almighty.

El Shaddai can do incredible things. He can do things that we may deem impossible. Like Abraham, He just calls us to obey. We need to seek, trust, and obey the Lord. We need to trust that He can do the impossible and move mountains in our lives.
