The Advance of The Gospel: Acts 2:1-13 — 9/6/2024 10:00 AM
Today's speaker is Dr. Chris Miller, Senior Professor of Biblical Studies at Cedarville University. Dr. Miller shows us from Acts 2:1-13 the power of Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, and the power that He has within Christians today.
Notes
Dr. Chris Miller, Senior Professor of Biblical Studies, led today’s chapel through Acts 2. He taught the students about the Holy Spirit and His power living in us. Even though we can’t see the Holy Spirit, we can feel Him and trust that He is among us. Miller compared the Holy Spirit to the wind to paint a picture of what He is like. Just like we can’t see the wind but can feel it, the Holy Spirit is invisibly dwelling within us.
The focal point of Acts 2 is the Holy Spirit arriving on the day of Pentecost. This is what empowered the disciples and encouraged them in their Kingdom mission. This leads us to Miller’s two main takeaways:
- Promised Empowerment for Mission
- Indwelling for Abundant Life
The Holy Spirit is now living among the disciples and working through them. He is leading and guiding them to be bold in their faith. This is how they shared the Gospel with full confidence. They had the Holy Spirit dwelling among them.
The Holy Spirit also shows an indwelling for abundant life. We are now temples God lives in. He is no longer confined to a temple building. The Holy Spirit is moving and living within us.
We can now live with confidence knowing that the Holy Spirit is with us, just as He was with the disciples. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place. When He died, He took on our sins and came back to life. He defeated death and then ascended to heaven. When Jesus went to heaven, He sent His Holy Spirit down to the earth. His Spirit is now dwelling in all who place their faith and trust in Him. We may not see visible signs like the disciples, but the same power that was with them is with us. We can go out and boldly spread the Gospel because we know that the Holy Spirit is with us.
