Arthur Brooks to Speak in Chapel

Dr. Arthur Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and best-selling author, will speak at Cedarville University's chapel service on Thursday, April 7, at 10 a.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center. 

The American Enterprise Institute is a think tank based in Washington, D.C., and focuses on expanding liberty, increasing individual opportunity and strengthening free enterprise. 

As a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations, AEI dedicates its research and education initiatives on the areas of politics, economics, foreign policy and social welfare. Brooks has served as the institute’s president since 2009.

Brooks has authored two books, “The Road to Freedom: How to Win the Fight for Free Enterprise” (2012) and “The Conservative Heart” (2015), which both earned a spot on The New York Times bestsellers list.  

He is a frequent guest on a variety of national radio and television shows, and has written op-eds and blogs for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.

In addition to his career as a political pundit, Brooks is also an accomplished musician. At age 19, Brooks left college to play the French professionally. He spent time with the Annapolis Brass Quintet in Baltimore, Maryland, The City Orchestra in Barcelona, Spain and The Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida.

After spending a decade as a musician, Brooks returned to school and earned his bachelor’s in economics from Thomas Edison State College. He holds a master’s in economics from Florida Atlantic University, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in philosophy from the Frederick S. Pardee RAND Graduate School in California.

Brooks served as a professor of economics and social entrepreneurship serving at Syracuse University from 2001-08, including two years as the Louis Bantle Chair in business and government policy. 

He and his wife, Ester, have three children and reside in Washington, D.C.
