Conference Discusses Christian Approach to Engineering

by Alyssa Speicher, Public Relations Writer

Cedarville University will host the Christian Engineering Conference 2017 (CEC), a professional gathering June 28-30 focusing on how Christians should approach engineering.

“The CEC is important because engineering isn’t something that necessarily requires you to think spiritually,” said Dr. Thomas Thompson, professor of mechanical engineering at Cedarville. “But if we are Christians who are serving God through engineering, thinking like Christians should enable us to be better engineers. It is good to be able to get together with other Christians in the field to remind each other of this.”

In the past, this conference has brought together 50-60 engineers and educators from Christian schools nationwide, but Thompson and others hope this year’s conference will attract more people than ever before.

The CEC dates back to 1992 when the first conference was held. It is now a biannual meeting held by the Christian Engineering Society. The faculty committee members planning and organizing the conference come from Cedarville University, Seattle Pacific University, Calvin College and Dordt College.

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,760 undergraduate, graduate, and online students in more than 100 areas of study. Founded in 1887, Cedarville is recognized nationally for its authentic Christian community, rigorous academic programs, strong graduation and retention rates, accredited professional and health science offerings, and leading student satisfaction ratings.
