Serving others with intentionaltionality has led to a prestigious national award for Susan Troth, associate professor of worship at Cedarville University. Troth was presented the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for community service by Americorps. The award ceremony was on Saturday, Dec. 14 in Atlanta, Georgia.
She received a certificate at the ceremony and will soon receive an official letter of congratulations from President Joe Biden.
This award signifies 4,000 or more hours of qualified community service and is the highest honor given. Troth’s service includes mentoring young leaders, supporting missions locally and internationally and providing assistance to worship ministries worldwide. This summer, she will lead a mission trip to Germany, and she plans to expand her volunteer efforts in retirement as she publishes a book, “Stressed to 'S.P.L.E.S.S.E.D.' ” for women struggling with personal loss.
Having grown up in a family dedicated to community service, volunteer work came naturally to Troth. Her service to others began in high school, when she organized a youth choir for her church, laying a foundation for a lifetime of investing in others.
Over the years, Troth’s impact has reached beyond music. As a pastor’s wife for 31 years, she supported disaster relief efforts and ministered to individuals in grief after becoming a widow herself.
“Volunteering is woven into the fabric of my life,” said Troth. “I love investing in others, and I’m excited to continue serving in new ways, especially as I prepare for retirement. As followers of Jesus, we never retire from serving others and investing in the kingdom of Christ.”
