As the demand for cybersecurity professionals soars, Cedarville University is launching a new student-led initiative to equip future cyber experts with technical and leadership skills.
The university’s Center for the Advancement of Cybersecurity will introduce the Cyber Leadership Development Program (CLDP)in spring 2025. The two-year program, tailored for upperclassmen, focuses on enhancing communication and leadership abilities, equipping students to become multifaceted professionals in the rapidly growing cybersecurity field.
“In cybersecurity, there is an increasing demand for skilled professionals who excel in both technical expertise and leadership,” said David Reid, chief cyber student fellow of the cybersecurity center. “We want the CLDP to be a space where students can strengthen their technical skills and leadership abilities to become well-rounded cyber professionals.”
While Cedarville’s cybersecurity academic program emphasizes technical proficiencies, the CLDP focuses on soft skills essential for career advancement. The program includes leadership exercises, team challenges and speaker events led by Cedarville graduates, some who now work for key partners like the National Security Agency. These opportunities provide students with additional tools to prepare for the challenges of their future career.
Cedarville University’s Center for the Advancement of Cybersecurity has recently been recognized as No. 1 in Ohio and No. 3 nationally by the 2025 Cybersecurity Guide highlighting the university’s role in shaping the future of national security.
“Through the CLDP, we aim to transform technically skilled students into capable leaders,” said Stephen Reid, a sophomore from Columbus, Ohio, and founder of the CLDP. “When you bring such exceptional individuals together for a common purpose, amazing things can happen.”
As cybersecurity careers continue to expand, the CLDP is preparing students to excel as both technical experts and as strategic leaders in the world of cybersecurity.
