Cedarville University’s Department of Communication is bringing Hollywood to campus with a free advanced screening of “Between Borders,” a historical faith-based film, on Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. This event, held at the DeVries Theatre in the Stevens Student Center, features Elizabeth Tabish, best known for her role in “The Chosen,” and is open to the university community.
Following the screening, Isaac Norris, the film’s writer and producer, will participate in a Q&A session and discuss the implications of producing an independent film, his scriptwriting process, and ways to use resources to minister to refugees and immigrants in need.
“Norris can provide valuable insight for our broadcasting, digital media and journalism students and help them learn how to make an inspiring film like ‘Between Borders,’” said Sean O’Connor, assistant professor of broadcasting, digital media and journalism. “We hope they can take away how storytelling can help share the Gospel and change lives.”
“Between Borders” is based on the true story of an Armenian family living in Azerbaijan during the collapse of the Soviet Union. Forced out of their home due to political unrest, the family immigrates to Russia and later attempts to become American citizens. In the process, their newfound Christian faith is tested as they face discrimination and hardship. The film’s unique portrayal of this family’s journey is emblematic of many others who face similar trials today.
The Department of Communication at Cedarville continually provides learning opportunities to inspire students to make a meaningful impact in the Christian film industry and bring true stories to life.
“My hope is that our broadcasting, digital media and journalism students will be inspired to tell stories that glorify God,” said O’Connor. “This film will encourage our students to build relationships with people outside their circles and be a light to those around them.”
