On Saturday, March 22, Cedarville University students came together for the first-ever Jog-A-Thon, an exciting community event sponsored by the university’s Allied Health Student Organization (AHSO). Held at the Cedarville University track field, the event aimed to raise funds and strengthen community ties by supporting the Cedarville Senior Center, a vital resource for local seniors.
A diverse group of participants, ranging from eight-year-olds to eighty-year-olds, laced up their running shoes to take part in the event. Cedarville Mayor John Cody kicked off the Jog-A-Thon with the ceremonial use of a starter pistol and proceeded to run three miles himself.
"Our goal is to encourage students to intermingle with the township," said Mia Hardwick, president of AHSO. "This event was the perfect opportunity to bring together people from all walks of life."
Participants, including Cedarville students, parents and members of the local community, were encouraged to secure pledges of $250, which will be used to support the Cedarville Senior Center’s programs and services.
Though the event was put together in just a few weeks, it proved to be a resounding success. The AHSO plans to make the Jog-A-Thon an annual event, with hopes to expand its reach and involve corporate sponsors. The event is expected to grow, and AHSO hopes it will become an anticipated annual gathering that will bring the university and township closer together.
