Temporary Academic Accommodations
Temporary academic accommodations can be provided for students recovering from injuries or needing other temporary academic access considerations. Examples include, but are not limited to, a concussion with sustained symptoms, dominant arm or wrist injury/surgery, pregnancy complications, or chemotherapy.
If you have a temporary condition, follow the process below:
- Complete section one on the online application
- Submit documentation
- Meet with a member of the Disability Services team who will engage in an interactive process to discuss your condition and determine what accommodations may be necessary and appropriate. (They will reach out to you and arrange a meeting)
Document Requirements
To establish eligibility for accommodations, include medical documentation from the diagnosing physician, emergency room physician, or a qualified professional practicing in the area in which the disabling condition is diagnosed. (If you are a CU athlete, documentation from the CU athletic trainer is acceptable.)
This documentation should include:
- A clear statement describing the injury
- A summary of symptoms related to the diagnosis
- A description of the functional limitations caused by the injury
- A prognosis of the length of time the accommodations may be necessary
- Signature by the diagnosing physician or other qualified professional
Student Responsibilities
- The student should work with their professor to discuss a plan to complete their required coursework.
- The student may schedule their make-up quizzes or exams in The Cove and should notify The Cove by email at the cove@cedarville.edu at least two business days in advance if this assistance is needed.
- Updated documentation will be required if the student needs an extension beyond the approved time frame for their accommodations. If the student believes this extension is necessary, schedule a meeting with a member of the disability services team to discuss the process.
If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out to our Disability team!
