Accessing FAFSA Info with the FSA ID
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is being updated for the 2025–26 year and is expected to be available by December 1, 2024. For more information about the recent FAFSA changes, please visit studentaid.gov. [Updated October 7, 2024]
FSA ID
The US Department of Education allows users to create and use their personal FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID) to login to the studentaid.gov system (used for completing the FAFSA, Direct Loan documents, etc.).
Students (undergraduate or graduate) and parents of dependents students can create their individual FSA ID here. The FSA ID is comprised of a user-created username and password; once created, it can be maintained and updated as needed.
NOTE: You are ONLY authorized to create an FSA ID for yourself. Therefore, it is illegal for anyone to create an FSA ID for another person (parents should not create an FSA ID for their child; students should not create an FSA ID for either parent). If you wish to assist someone, please make sure that they are in control of the computer process and you are there to provide help with the process. Here is a quote from the FSA ID creation website:
"Only create an FSA ID using your own personal information and for your own exclusive use. You are not authorized to create an FSA ID on behalf of someone else, including a family member. Misrepresentation of your identity to the federal government could result in criminal or civil penalties."
