Application for Summer Loans
NOTE: Please read carefully before proceeding to application.
How do I know if I should complete the application for summer loans?
Only submit the Summer Aid Application if your active academic program for summer is one of the following AND you plan to use federal direct loan funds (Student Sub/Unsub, Parent PLUS, Grad PLUS) if they are available to you:
- Undergraduate bachelor degree
- Master of Divinity
- Master of Ministry
- PharmD (P1, P2, or P3 year)
OR you plan to apply for a private education loan for one of the above programs.
Note for Undergraduate Students
Federal Pell Grant and Ohio College Opportunity Grant do not require the submission of a Summer Aid Application. Eligibility for awarding these grants for the summer term is reviewed periodically throughout the summer and added to your student aid account when appropriate.
Graduate Students Who Should NOT Complete a Summer Application
Students in the following academic programs should NOT complete the Summer Aid Application as your financial aid package for the 2024-25 year will be distributed using a Summer/Fall/Spring setup once your 2024-2025 FAFSA is received.
- MA in Biblical Leadership
- MA in Worship and Theology
- Master of Business Administration (all variations)
- MA in Innovation
- Master of Athletic Training
- MSN (all variations)
- PharmD - P4 year
What kind of financial aid is available for summer school?
Federal Direct Student Loans: You may be eligible if you did not use your full annual amount during the fall/spring semesters.
Federal Pell Grant: (Undergraduate only) You may qualify to receive Pell Grant funds if you are otherwise eligible, and you did not use your full annual amount during fall/spring semesters, or you are eligible for additional Pell funds under Year-Round Pell authorization.
Ohio College Opportunity Grant: (Undergraduate only) Ohio residents may be eligible for this grant based upon the 2024–25 FAFSA.
Parent PLUS/Grad PLUS loans may be available.
Private education loans are an option as well (Note: This is the only option if you are less than half-time, and only a few private loan companies will allow students to borrow if less than half-time).
Other Scholarships/Grants: Institutional and donor-funded scholarships/grants are not available during summer school.
Tuition remission may be available for eligible students (the Summer Aid Application is not required to receive these funds).
How many credit hours must I take to be eligible for federal direct loans for summer?
You must be enrolled at least half-time (defined below), in courses that apply to your degree, offered by Cedarville University:
- Undergraduate Student: 6 credit hours or more
- Graduate Student: 3 credit hours or more
Do the required credit hours have to be taken all in one summer session?
The minimum enrollment for summer credit hours can be satisfied in one single summer session or a combination of multiple summer sessions or modules.
Note: If you receive financial aid for your summer school enrollment based on registered (or anticipated) credit hours, but you do not complete the required minimum credit hours during the summer, your financial aid may be reduced or canceled. This means that you then become responsible for the increased amount due to the University and/or the loan program itself.
**All hours attempted must be through Cedarville University only (no transient courses).
Do I need to complete the FAFSA to be eligible for summer loans and grants?
YES, to receive any federal aid you must submit a valid FAFSA.
- To better assist students enrolled for summer courses with Cedarville, please be sure you have completed and submitted your FAFSA for both the 2023–24 and 2024–25 years as certain grants and criteria depend upon one or both.
NO, if you plan to use only a Private Educational Loan toward your summer charges
I am a professional PharmD student. Must I apply if I want summer loans?
No, if you will begin your P4 APPE rotations this summer (Note: P4 student aid will be awarded as Summer/Fall/Spring using the 2024–25 FAFSA).
Yes, if you are a rising P1, P2, or P3 PharmD (or PharmD/MBA) program student and you wish to receive federal loans for your summer courses
How long will it take to process my summer loans application?
The financial aid office’s goal is to process your Summer Aid Application as soon as possible upon receipt. During peak processing it may take up to 14 days to process your application.
Ready?
The Application for Summer Loans will be available shortly after registration for summer classes opens up.
