5 Questions to Ask About College Dorm Life
Friday, March 8, 2024
Choosing a major, figuring out a financial plan, and researching the spiritual climate are all important steps in choosing a Christian college. However, there is another vital piece that your student must consider — dorm life! As you and your student are looking at different colleges, you’ll quickly discover that not all dorm life is created equal.
Ask these 5 important questions about dorm life at every institution you visit:
- Are the dorms coed? Are students allowed visiting hours in dorm rooms of opposite-sex students?
- What guidelines are in place regarding community life?
- What is the leadership structure within the dorm? Will my student be supervised?
- What is security like in the dorms?
- How is spiritual growth encouraged within the dorm environment?
At Cedarville, Residence Life is an essential part of our students’ experience. More than 80% of students spend their four years living in one of our residence halls, where lifelong friendships and memories are made. We provide leadership through student Resident Assistants (RAs) and full-time Resident Directors (RDs) in each of our residence halls to help students transition from home to college life.
Living on campus and in community with other students encourages learning and living out Cedarville’s core values: Love for God, Love for Others, Integrity in Conduct, and Excellence in Effort. The Community Lifestyle Guidelines inspire our students to live a Christ-centered life. In addition, the Residence Hall Guidelines aid in maintaining a healthy and respectful atmosphere. Our desire is that students’ experiences outside of the classroom help to shape the way they think about and live out the Gospel in everyday life.
Cedarville wants your student to enjoy residence life to its fullest!
