What Can You Do With an AGACNP Degree?

The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) track will train you to diagnose and treat patients experiencing acute or complex illnesses as well as exacerbations of chronic conditions. The AGACNP concentration will prepare you to become an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN). You will be trained to perform physical examinations, develop clinical diagnoses, and develop an appropriate treatment plan for the patient’s condition. You also will be trained to perform a range of invasive procedures such as intubation and placement of central lines and chest drainage tubes.

You will be able to find employment in a range of practice settings such as intensive care units and emergency departments, as well as inpatient and outpatient specialty settings including neurology, cardiology, and internal medicine.

Graduates of the AGACNP track are qualified to seek national certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).

Each U.S. state and territory may have different professional licensure requirements governing nursing occupations. Cedarville ensures that its programs meet the educational prerequisites for professional licensure within the State of Ohio. If you reside outside Ohio, you should contact Cedarville's Director of Graduate Nursing Programs as well as your state licensure board to confirm licensure requirements for your state or territory before beginning the DNP.

Opportunities to Learn Outside the Classroom

You will complete 800 hours of direct care clinical experience in various aspects of acute healthcare.

You will participate in four required 2–3-day on-campus experiences, which include face-to-face instruction of course materials and simulation experiences using our state-of-the-art, high- and low-fidelity simulators.
