Group Auditions
Cedarville University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
Instrumental Ensemble Audition information:
All of the instrumental groups require an audition, with the exception of the Pep Band. For string instruments, the audition consists of performing a piece of your choice (which may be as simple as a hymn). For all wind and percussion instruments, contact Dr. Chet Jenkins for audition excerpts. The rest of the audition will consist of major scales, sight reading, and a brief interview. Each audition lasts about 10 minutes. You will be judged by a faculty member who is skilled on your instrument.
If you have instrumental talent we encourage you to audition for Wind Symphony, Orchestra, or Jazz Band. We especially need color instruments, like oboes, bassoons, french horns, etc. The school owns a certain number of instruments that we loan out for student use. Auditions will be held Sunday of Getting Started starting at 1 pm in various locations in the DMC. Sign up for your audition time at the Music and Worship table in the Dixon Ministry Center from 9am - 3pm Friday and Saturday of Getting Started weekend.
Choral Ensemble Audition information:
All choral ensembles in the Music Department require an audition. The audition consists of performing a hymn, praise song, or portion of a classical selection or folk-song without accompaniment. You will be asked to sight read a short musical selection, and one of the choral faculty will vocalize you to check your range. Each audition lasts 5-7 minutes and will be heard by the choral directors. If you love to sing, we hope you will audition for Concert Chorale, Jubilate, Men's Glee Club, or Women's Choir. Auditions will be held Sunday of Getting Started starting at 1 pm in various locations in the DMC. Sign up for your audition time at the Music and Worship table in the Dixon Ministry Center from 9am - 3pm Friday and Saturday of Getting Started weekend.
