Biography

Karen Kim is a pianist and local teacher based in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a teacher, Karen has been featured in the American Music Teacher magazine for outstanding teaching and studio development. Karen’s research on teaching contrapuntal skills has been recognized with awards from the Edward F. Hayes Advanced Research Forum and the 2024 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Her students have been winners of numerous local, state, and national music competitions.

In 2020, Karen was awarded the prestigious Mary Sue Harris Teacher Fellowship award by Music Teachers National Association, the highest level of recognition a developing piano teacher can receive. She currently serves as the Ohio representative for the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Karen received her Doctorate of Musical Arts from The Ohio State University. She currently lives in Cincinnati, teaching as an adjunct professor for Cedarville University and Wilmington College and directing private lesson studio "musical moments" with her husband, pianist Jaesung Kim.
